Newcastle’s new owners will prioritise out-of-work bosses as they seek a replacement for Steve Bruce. That would rule out Rangers boss Steven Gerrard for the job.

The Saudi-led consortium is turning first to those without a job as they hunt for the man to fulfil their long-term vision.Bruce could be kept on while they consider their options but they do not want to have to pay compensation for a boss currently in a role.

That leaves the likes of Frank Lampard and former Borussia Dortmund chief Lucien Favre as possible contenders. Bruce will take charge of his 1000th game on Sunday when Spurs come calling but it looks like his time in the Toon dugout will come to an end soon.Transfers have also not been a priority during the new owners’ first
