Two 'new' towns in the north west have been named amongst some of the most affordable areas to buy a property in the UK. It comes as a new report suggests that house hunters could save nearly £50,000 on average by purchasing a home in a new town, compared with average house prices generally.
According to new analysis, the average cost of a home in a new town is £300,656, compared with a UK average of £346,995, Halifax has said.
Over the past three decades, the average price of a new town-located property has risen by 441 percent, with some new towns having seen property prices increase by significantly more.
Crawley in West Sussex tops the list, with property prices surging by 543 percent since 1994, from £63,712 to £409,836.
