You could be forgiven for absolutely seething with rage after hearing about Greater Manchester’s so-called ‘punishment beating’ from the Government during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Andy Burnham claims that Boris Johnson’s government not only knew Tier 3 restrictions wouldn’t work, but also imposed stricter regulations as punishment for the mayor's very public rebellion back in October 2020.

It was then that - after days of negotiations with the government - the mayor stood outside Central Library, side-by-side with then deputy mayor Bev Hughes and then council leader Sir Richard Leese for a press conference.
