Well it’s official, Manchester’s Christmas light switch-on is off again this year. For the second year running the council say there is ‘no safe or suitable location’ in the city centre as major building work continues in and around the town hall.
A big free live festive countdown show hasn’t actually happened since 2019 and was initially cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
But council bosses last year blamed the amount of construction work taking place across the city, as Dianne Bourne reports. The decision hasn’t gone down well with M.E.N readers with one describing those in charge as ‘Grinches’.
