The Last Dinner Party have covered Blondie‘s ‘Call Me’ for Australian broadcaster triple j’s Like A Version series.The NME The Cover stars’ unique take on the Blondie and Debbie Harry classic see the band swap out Blondie’s more punk-leaning brand of rock for their patented indie stylings.
Listen to The Last Dinner Party’s cover of Blondie’s ‘Call Me’ below.Speaking to triple j about why they chose the song as their cover, lead singer Abigail Morris and bassist Georgia Davies explained that they used to sing the track as their “go-to” pick at karaoke.
Morris said: “We would destroy it at house parties and clear the room. This is us trying to reclaim all those years and do it well.”The cover’s publishing comes after the band were announced on the shortlist for the Mercury Prize 2024.
The overall winner of the 2024 Mercury Prize will be revealed in September, with the award’s broadcast partner BBC Music providing television and radio coverage.In March, The Last Dinner Party spoke to NME about new material and the response to their debut album at the BRITs 2024 – shortly before being presented with the Rising Star award.“The record came out and we went straight on tour,” explained Morris. “It was the best tour we’ve ever done because it was the first time that people knew the words to everything.
