Graeme Shinnie was determined to make sure that Neil Warnock left Aberdeen on a high. The Dons captain had inside knowledge that the veteran manager was stepping down after their Scottish Cup quarter-final clash with Kilmarnock.
Warnock confided in his captain and it fired Shinnie up. The Dons gave the interim boss the perfect send-off with a 3-1 victory thanks to strikes from Jamie McGrath, the skipper and an own goal from Stuart Findlay.
Shinnie said: “I had a bit of inside knowledge so it wasn’t a huge shock to me. I’ve had a good relationship with him and he’s always been open with me.
I’ve been close with him and he’s always leaned on me as the captain. Not everyone knew because we had an important game so a lot of the boys found out afterwards.
