The Holiday fans stunned after discovering it wasn't meant to be a festive film

There's numerous hit Christmas films that we all love, from Home Alone to Love Actually. One title which has remained popular since its release in 2006 is The Holiday, starring Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Jack Black and several other high profile actors.The festive rom-com was written and directed by Nancy Meyers, who has opened up about her initial intentions for the movie.

Nancy has admitted that she didn't plan for The Holiday to be a Christmas film, and is still "shocked" at how festive the movie turned out to be.

Speaking on the Hollywood Gold podcast, she said “I know it’s called The Holiday because they’re taking a holiday, but it could have been called that if it was in the summer.

Everybody sees it as a Christmas movie, and when I watched it last night to prepare, I was a little shocked at how much Christmas was in it.” She went on to reveal why The Holiday ended up being set in December, adding: “I just really wanted to tell the story about these people.
