A mum-of-two has shown how being brave with DIY can massively pay off. Sarah Fawcett created a stylish wooden panelling feature wall for her family's lounge, which has seen thousands of homeowners want to recreate the look.

The beauty business owner, who has her own salon at the bottom of their garden, says she was quoted £1,000 for the job, but she and her husband pulled it off for just £120 - including tools. "All in all it took me about a week from start to finish, including adding the tv unit and then hiding the tv and phone wires," Sarah said. "My husband is the handy one, he’s the cutter and used a circular saw, and I come up with the ideas." The 36-year-old saw the fashionable idea on a design business' Instagram page, and was told it would cost around £1,000 for one wall of slat wood panelling.

But with her business being closed during lockdown last year, she had the time to come up with her own cheaper version. "I had so much time on my hands and it turned out even better than I thought," she added.

The pair purchased three large sheets of MDF from their local Dove building material store where they live in Ferryhill, Durham.
