A shopping centre that was once the largest indoor mall in Europe is now mostly deserted, with many of the units now empty.Shopping City in Runcorn, which opened back in 1972, was incredibly impressive at the time - as it boasted walkways "in the sky" linking it to hospitals, courts, and housing estates.
Not to mention all the shops that used to be there, such as Woolworths and Littlewoods back in the day, and Tesco and The Range more recently.
However, these have all closed their doors, leaving empty units behind. Cheshire Live reports that despite having undergone renovations around 10 years ago, the centre still feels dated and out of touch.
It's now punctuated by empty units, some of them very large. Adam Killen, 29, a barber in Runcorn's Old Town, called it: "A shopping centre with no shops in it." “It’s always been the same.
