The 3rd Annual Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival’s Inclusion Fellowship Open For Submissions

It’s a-me, Mario! That’s right, the world’s most famous plumber is returning to the silver screen for the first time since the 1993 live-action movie Super Mario Bros.

Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, Andi Mack‘s Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina, Angela Bassett, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Amandla Stenberg, Jemaine Clement, Maya Erskine, Tantoo Cardinal, Tom Waits and Richard E. Grant make up the voice cast for Wildwood, the latest movie from Laika Studios.

Emilio Mayorga Alauda Ruiz de Azúa’s “Lullaby” was described by Pedro Almodóvar as “undoubtedly the best debut in Spanish cinema for years.” Chema García Ibarra’s “The Sacred Spirit” was hailed by Variety as “one of the standouts of the 2021 Locarno Film Festival.” David Pérez Sañudo’s “Ane is Missing” won three Spanish Academy Goya Awards last year.  What these three Spanish movies, all first features, have in common is that they have passed through the ECAM Madrid Film School’s Incubator, a six-month producer mentorship initiative.  As its fifth edition rounds a final bend, Variety analyzes what its projects say about the state of cutting-edge young Spanish cinema and what the talent behind it says about the state of contemporary filmmaking. 

Annika Pham New Europe Film Sales has added U.K. distributor Signature Entertainment to the slew of global buyers won over by Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson’s “Beautiful Beings,” which has racked up awards from Poland, Bulgaria, Italy and Taiwan, since its first bow at the last Berlinale Panorama. Earlier deals were closed with the U.S. (Altered Innocence), Hungary (Vertigo), Benelux (Arti Film), Germany/Austria (Salzgeber), Spain (Filmin), and CEE (HBO).Billed by Variety reviewer Jessica Kiang as an “Icelandic coming-of age, radiant with violence and tenderness,” Guðmundsson’s drama revolves around a young boy raised by a clairvoyant mother who decides to adopt a bullied misfit into his gang of outsiders. 

Making its European premiere, Sally El Hosaini’s The Swimmers has been set as the opening film of the 18th Zurich Film Festival. Based on the inspirational true-life story of the Mardini sisters, it will screen on September 22 at Zurich’s Convention Center. It will earlier world premiere as the opening night gala presentation in Toronto.

Wilson Chapman editorPinocchio might not be a real boy just yet, but he definitely is a real puppet.Disney Plus has released the first trailer for “Pinocchio,” a live-action remake of the classic 1940 animated movie of the same name, which hits the service in September.Based on the classic 1883 children’s book “The Adventures of Pinocchio” by Italian author Carlo Collodi, “Pinocchio” stars Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, who provides his voice to the living puppet. Pinocchio is the creation of Geppetto (Tom Hanks), a childless woodcarver, who wishes on a star for Pinocchio to become a real boy. His wish is heard by a Blue Fairy (Cynthia Erivo), who visits his shop and brings the puppet to life. An overjoyed Geppetto raises him like his own son, but for Pinocchio to become a real boy instead of just a living puppet, he’ll need to go on a coming-of-age journey and learn how to be selfless, brave and true.

The woman who voiced Pocahontas in the eponymous animated film classic was arrested late last week in Ohio on disorderly conduct charges.

The actress who voiced the title character in Disney's animated Pocahontas from 1995 was arrested for disorderly conduct in Ohio nearly two years after being arrested twice in three days.Irene Bedard, 55, was taken into custody by law enforcement in Green County, Ohio on Friday for disorderly conduct.According to a police report obtained by TMZ on Tuesday, officers were doing a welfare check after receiving a report that a woman had passed out in the bushes on a residential street.Police stated that when they had arrived they found the actress in a parking lot nearby as she displayed a range of emotions including talking calmly to being upset and crying. Flume has given away some long-wanted tracks to fans as free downloads.Flume recently took to Discord to hold an ‘Ask Me Anything’ session where he was quizzed about one old track in particular – titled ‘Greenpeace’.In the middle of the voice chat session, the musician shared a download link for the much sought after track.It was originally made for part of a campaign with Greenpeace Australia Pacific back in 2017 although that only featured just 90 seconds of audio (as per DJ Mag).After the session, Flume shared the full track and it’s eight-and-a-half minutes in length.You can listen to the full version below. When they first walk in, they’re greeted by a Siri voice, British and female, who makes ritual pronouncements like “It is evening. Enjoy your stay in the Immaculate Room.” If they make it through all 50 days, they’ll get $5 million in prize money.
