Pep Guardiola rotates his teams more than most managers, making life difficult for opponents and fans trying to guess what his XI will be in any given match.
But the Manchester City boss also rewards players that perform well, and with a squad that isn't the biggest there are some positions where competition for places is not as intense as others.
This season, that has certainly been true of the full-back positions. Joao Cancelo has been the player used most by Guardiola so far in this campaign, the only member of the squad to have played more than 2,500 minutes in all competitions.
When he hasn't been used at left-back, he has usually covered for Kyle Walker on the opposite flank. Ederson is not far behind despite getting a rest for cup games, and then come City's other former Benfica boys; Bernardo Silva is third in the list after starting 22 of 23 Premier League games, and Ruben Dias has still been essential at the back.
