More than 100 local authorities in England have seen a week-on-week increase in new coronavirus cases, the latest figures show.

Some places have recently seen a sharp rise in the rate of new infections, while others had very small rise in the week ending July 6 compared with the previous seven-day period.

More than a third of 315 local authorities in England experienced an increase, while the rest saw their rate drop or remain the same.

Carlisle, Cumbria, saw its rate of new cases per 100,000 residents double - jumping to 24.0 in the seven days to July 6 from 12.0 (+12.0) in the week ending June 29.
