Furious Tesco shoppers have taken to social media to slam the supermarket chain over a major change to a popular money-saving offer for Clubcard holders. The 'Big Four' grocer is facing criticism from families who have been left dismayed at its decision to axe the £1.20 promotion on chocolate bars and sweets.

The staple promotion included a range of fan-favourites, including Yorkies, Kinder Bueno and Bounty Bars and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, all which are normally priced between 60p-70p each.Additionally, Tesco has also scrapped a three for £1 deal on bags of soft sweets, including shrimps and bananas, raspberry mushrooms, milk bottles, dolly mixtures and mini jelly beans, which will now be priced at 50p each.

That move means that customers will now pay £1.50 for three bags - a 50p increase. It comes just as new legislation that has forced supermarkets and retailers to make changes to the way they sell any products that are high in fat, high in salt (HFSS) came into force this month, reports The Sun.

The new law means that HFSS foods can no longer be displayed at checkouts and near store entrances in a bid to encourage customers to make healthier choices.A further ban on multibuy deals on chocolates and sweets has been delayed by the government until October next year due to the cost of living crisis, but Tesco has made the decision to bring the ban into force this month.
