A Tesco shopper is on a mission to track down and thank the stranger who helped him with an incredible act of kindness. David Roche, 54, was standing in a queue for the checkout as the supermarket approached its 4pm closing time on Sunday (July 21) when the generous act unfolded.
He was carrying a full basket with items of shopping for his girlfriend, Louise. He unloaded the items for the till but as he reached into his pocket, David realised he had forgotten his wallet.
With the clock running against him, David feared he would lose the items, until a kind-hearted woman stepped in to help. David, from Kensington, Merseyside, told the Liverpool Echo: "I'd already unloaded my shopping onto the belt. I said to the Tesco worker, 'Hey mate, I forgot my wallet. Is there any chance you can hold the shop open please?'" The checkout assistant told David it wasn't possible to keep the store on Cables Retail Park, Prescot, open for him - and suggested he use his phone to pay instead.
