The chapest place to pick up a basket of essential items at the supermarket is currently Asda, according to a new report. Looking at the items people buy most often, price tracking website Alertr found a gap of almost £25 between the cheapest and most expensive supermarkets.
Alertr co-founder Andy Barr said: "As is stands, it seems Asda is the best bet for lowest value, but who knows how this could change over the coming weeks.” Lidl and Aldi weren't included as customers can't manage a full shop online at them.
But while few eyebrows will be raised at Asda coming out top, the news that rival Tesco finished second last might come as a surprise.
