A terrifying video has been shared by parents as a warning to others not to leave loose blankets in their baby's cot when they go to sleep.

The footage was posted by Safe Sleep For Babies on TikTok, an account that shares educational videos on safe sleep for babies under 12 months old.

It advises that parents should always follow the ABC of sleep for little ones, which stands for alone, back and crib. It says babies should always be put to sleep alone with no loose blankets or toys, placed on their backs, and be sleeping in a secure crib.

In a video which has racked up more than two million views, it claims to show real footage from a video monitor of a baby in its crib with a loose blanket.
