Shotts boss John McKeown was pleased to see his side dig deep to beat Rutherglen Glencairn 2-1 in the West of Scotland League First Division, despite being down to 10 men for 70 minutes.Dean Sutherland was given his marching orders 20 minutes into the game, but Shotts took the lead through Taylor Evans seven minutes later.Jack McIlveen levelled for Glencairn in 51 minutes, but Chris Meikle popped up with a 79th-minute winner to keep all three points at Hannah Park.McKeown said: “We were down to 10 men for most of the game, so it was pleasing to get the win against a good side, and we were quite happy with it.“We were under a wee bit of pressure, as you would imagine, in the second half in particular – but I still felt we looked dangerous enough to score and we defended really well again.“I think that’s the third league win in a row at home, 2-1, and we showed a wee bit of character, so I’m quite happy.”Shotts are back at home on Saturday to host Beith in the Scottish Junior Cup third round, and McKeown expects a battle, adding: “They were one of the top Premier teams, they’ve got good history in the competition, they’re a good, experienced side and have a good manager in Chris Strain, so we’ll need to be at our best again to compete.“But we’ll go into it with a wee bit of confidence.

Last year we got to the quarters and lost out narrowly to Auchinleck, so hopefully we can get another wee run, but we realise we need to take a big scalp on Saturday.”Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onTwitter via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and video.
