A teenage rugby league starlet fears he will never play again after he was beaten up by a gang of nightclub bouncers. Joe Sharratt, 18, was left with severe concussion and two bleeds on the brain after being punched in the face and felled by a rain of violent blows when he and a friend were ejected from Manchester's Factory 251 club.
The teenager who has been playing rugby since he was four and who was an academy player with St Helens RFC in Merseyside later said he had been flirting with some girls - but the next thing he remembered was waking up in hospital.
His injuries left him with excruciating tinnitus and deafness in his left ear and he had to pay £3,000 for special hearing aids.
