Two Irvine dancers have been handpicked to compete for Team Scotland in next year's International Cheerleading Championships in Florida.Talented Oliva Reilly, 12, and Yvie Deans, 13, were chuffed to bits when they found out they were tapped to cheer for Scotland after a grueling two-part audition.
The Dance Dream Inspire (DDI) students have been hard at work training for the opportunity while fundraising to pay their way across the pond.Kirsty, Yvie's proud mum, said: "I'm so proud of Yvie for pushing herself out of her comfort zone and being selected to represent her country in a sport that she loves."The girl's first tryout was sending a video showcasing their tumbling skills and after being shortlisted from their video the girls had to do an in-person audition; it was a long two weeks of waiting before they found out."When Yvie found out she was just so hyper, jumping about and screaming."Although she tried out, I don't think she believed she was good enough to compete at that level and now I can see her confidence grow and she's just so thrilled to be given this opportunity."The girls need to raise around £6,000 to cover the costs of the upcoming trip.Kirsty added: "Me and Oliva's mum have been on a mission to raise the funds to send them stateside since they were selected.
We have a bonus ball up and running at the minute, the girls are running a tuckshop at the dance studio and we held a family bingo night recently and plan to host another night in March."Oliva's proud mum Mandy said: "DDI has been amazing for Oliva, she never gelled with any other studio before but never settled. "Now she's heading to her first international competition - she's come a long way and I'm so proud of her."I don't think she really
