Team GB star Tom Pidcock was booed by locals after his performance in the men's mountain bike final race saw him win gold against Frenchman Victor Koretzky.
Pidcock, 24, was bidding to defend his Olympic title after securing gold in Tokyo three years ago in the same event. The defending Olympic and world champion won gold in extraordinary circumstances after suffering a puncture to his front tyre.
Pidcock was forced to undergo a wheel change, leaving him more than 30 seconds behind the leaders, before catching up to second-placed Alan Hatherly and Koretzky in first and racing across the finish line first in the contest. Speaking after the race, Koretzky said: "I made a small careless mistake on the descent. The bike hit gravel, I took some. This mistake cost me gold.
