Team GB canoeist Adam Burgess fell agonisingly short of a medal in the C1 canoe slalom, finishing fourth in the event and a mere 0.16 seconds behind the bronze medalist.

Gold in the event went to Slovenia’s Lukas Savsek who completed the course in a stunning 98.25, while Lukas Rohan of the Czech Republic picked up silver after finishing in 101.96.

The German Sideris Tasiadis pipped Burgess to bronze with a time of 103.70 compared to the Englishman’s 103.86. Tokyo 2020 was Burgess’ Olympic debut.

Having cruised through the heat and semi-final at the Kasai Canoe Slalom course, the 29-year-old faced a quick turnaround of just an hour between his semi-final and final run.
