Take That were giants of the Boy Band era, selling more records than any other English group since The Beatles. They are still enjoying success today, with a new Netflix documentary in the works as well as appearing at the BAFTAs tonight.
But would Take That have been half as successful under another name? Singer Mark Owen has admitted that the band has been labouring under a “cr*p” name through their 35-year existence, before admitting that the alternatives they had considered were even worse.
In the band’s very earliest days, before Robbie Williams, Howard Donald and Jason Orange were on board, Gary Barlow and Mark Owen were calling their band The Cutest Rush.
Jason and Howard had themselves been in a wannabe boyband called Street Beat before producer Nigel Martin Smith decided to combine the groups to form a British version of New Kids On the Block.
