John Wick, a producer reveals.In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, John Wick co-director and producer David Leitch (The Fall Guy, Bullet Train) reflected on its development as the film turns 10 this year.John Wick was released on October 24, 2014 with Keanu Reeves in the starring role – the film enjoyed modest box office success and critical acclaim, spawning three sequels, prequel television series The Continental, and upcoming spin-off film Ballerina.Leitch and co-director Chad Stahelski – the latter would go on to helm the John Wick sequels as sole director – previously worked as action choreographers for The Matrix films, meeting and working with Reeves along the way.The duo received the script for John Wick from Leitch’s wife Kelly McCormick (their manager at the time). It was written by Derek Kolstad, and the duo read it under the pretense of working on it as second-unit directors.“That was the first time we read it, and I think Bruce Willis might’ve been attached at that time,” Leitch told The Hollywood Reporter.Obviously, Willis did not go through with the project, and once Reeves signed on, Leitch and Stahelski reached out to their former Matrix colleague for a big ask.“We went back to Keanu and said, ‘Hey, man, it’s a little small for us, but what do you think about us doing the whole thing?’,” Leitch remembered.

The upcoming film stars Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro, a ballerina who is trained to be an assassin in hopes of avenging the death of her family.The trailer – which is aptly backed by Elton John‘s ‘Tiny Dancer’ – sees the return of several faces including Ian McShane’s Winston and the late Lance Reddick‘s Charon, who take in a young Macarro and begin training her to be an assassin.The film is set after the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, with Macarro seeking revenge agains the people who killed her family.

The Continental marks the first spin-off in the John Wick franchise.Led by showrunners Greg Coolidge and Kirk Ward, the three-part series is a prequel spin-off revolved around a young Winston Scott (Colin Woodell), who was played by Ian McShane in the mainline John Wick films.Alongside Woodell, the show’s cast includes Mel Gibson, Hubert Point-Du Jour, Jessica Allain, Mishel Prada, Ben Robson, Peter Greene and Nhung Kate.The Continental follows the story of Winston Scott and his journey to becoming the proprietor of the New York branch of the Continental hotel chain, which acts as a safe haven for assassins.The show is a prequel to John Wick set in an alternate history depiction of the 1970s, offering different spins on real-world events including the rise of the American Mafia.A synopsis reads: “The series will explore the origin behind the iconic hotel-for-assassins from the John Wick universe through the eyes of a young Winston Scott, as he’s dragged into the Hellscape of 1970’s New York City to face a past he thought he’d left behind.“Winston charts a deadly course through the hotel’s mysterious underworld in a harrowing attempt to seize the hotel where he will eventually take his throne.”Along with a younger version of Scott, the show features a younger version of Charon (Ayomide Adegun), who was portrayed by the late Lance Reddick in the films.The first spin-off film, titled Ballerina, is scheduled to be released on June 7, 2024.Ana de Armas will play the lead character Rooney, a ballerina who seeks revenge on those who murdered her family.

In the new prequel, however, he’s played by younger actor Colin Woodell – and is dragged into the hellscape of 1970s New York City to face a past he thought he’d left behind.The synopsis continues: “Winston charts a deadly course through the hotel’s mysterious underworld in a harrowing attempt to seize the hotel where he will eventually take his future throne.”The first look image shows Woodell in action alongside Ben Robson, who plays Winston’s estranged brother Frankie.

John Wick spin-off prequel series, The Continental.The news was confirmed by Lionsgate chairman Kevin Beggs who noted that the series will explore the John Wick universe 40 years prior to where the first film begins.The spin-off will reportedly focus on a young Winston – the owner of the famous hotel for assassins.Speaking to Deadline, Beggs also revealed that the show will be a limited series with episodes as long as films.
