Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki ‘Yoshi-P’ Yoshida has said Square Enix won’t be announcing a release date for the Dawntrail expansion until they’re sure the schedule won’t change.Previous Final Fantasy 14 expansion Endwalker was originally set for release in November 2021 but was delayed by two weeks to allow developers time to “further improve” the quality of the update. According to Yoshida, the decision was only made a few week’s prior to the anticipated release date.Speaking at the Japanese Final Fantasy 14 Fan Fest 2024 over the weekend, Yoshida explained that he didn’t want the same thing to happen with Dawntrail.“Given that this is Fan Fest, you’re probably expecting us to announce the release date of Dawntrail,” said Yoshida via a livestream (thanks PCGamer).

Final Fantasy 14 players are reportedly being banned by Microsoft for using the phrase “free company”.In Final Fantasy 14, a free company is a player-operated organisation within the game, similar to a guild in other online titles. Players can only be a member of one free company at a time, with each company limited to 512 members.As well as the community aspect of being part of a free company, members also get access to shared rewards, group buffs and company housing.To help the system, Square Enix has also created an official community finder tool, which helps players find and join the free company of their choosing via Final Fantasy 14’s messenger service.

Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail is already causing issues for Square Enix, despite the expansion not actually being released until July.Release details for the long-awaited Final Fantasy 14 expansion were confirmed over the weekend, with Dawntrail coming July 2 after an early access window available to all those who pre-order the game.And pre-orders for a number of Dawntrail physical and digital versions went live yesterday [March 26] but quickly caused havoc with Square Enix’s servers.The Digital Collector's Edition includes in-game bonus items:

Dawntrail expansion for Final Fantasy 14 has been revealed, showing off the new Pictomancer class.Dawntrail is due out summer 2024 and brings two new jobs to Final Fantasy 14. The first, Viper, was confirmed back in October with the second being unveiled over the weekend at the official fan festival in Tokyo.Pictomancer allows players to use ranged, magical attacks via a paintbrush and paint palette.

Final Fantasy 14, though players won’t be able to equip them anymore.Earlier insight into belts in the game suggested that they may be entirely removed, but that isn’t actually the case. As explained in a lengthy post from the developer team, it’s simply that belts will no longer be obtainable or equippable following the release of Patch 6.0.

Square Enix has officially released the Final Fantasy 14: Shadowbringers soundtrack in full on Spotify.The soundtrack appeared on Spotify late last week (August 13) and features over six hours of music from the Shadowbringers expansion. The soundtrack was officially released over two years ago to coincide with the release of the expansion.

Final Fantasy 14 stopped players accessing the game throughout last night (August 14).Square Enix announced the attack last night on its website, stating: “We are currently experiencing technical difficulties because of a DDoS attack.” This attack limited players from logging in to Final Fantasy 14 and also booted players who were already in the game.A DDoS attack, or distributed denial-of-service attack, involves flooding a server, service or network with an influx of traffic. Hackers typically use a chain of compromised PCs to launch the attack, creating an overwhelming level of requests that a server can’t keep up with.This prompted the developer to look into the attacks and launch countermeasures.
