Plenty of moviegoers are making the decision to watch Christopher Nolan’s atomic drama “Oppenheimer” and Greta Gerwig’s colorful romp “Barbie” on the same day when the two tentpoles hit theaters on July 21. With two weeks to go until the big day, AMC Theatres, the world’s largest cinema chain, is reporting that more than 20,000 AMC Stubs members have purchased tickets to see “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” on the same day. Though it was apparently significant enough for AMC to issue a press release, it’s hard to contextualize the statistic because there aren’t a lot of comparable data points for guests purchasing tickets to see multiple movies on the same day, at least not ones that are publicly available. Moreover, the total number of AMC Stubs members, which includes A-List, AMC Stubs Premiere and AMC Stubs Insider, is unclear. Adam Aron, the CEO of AMC, said in early 2020 there were between 900,000 and 1 million A-List subscribers, which starts at $19.95 per month.

Sophia Scorziello editor AMC Theaters has partnered with Grindstone Entertainment and Roadside Attractions for an exclusive U.S. release of Uninterrupted’s documentary “Black Ice.” The film reveals a long history of racism in the hockey world as told by both past and Black hockey players. In a sport where only around 5% of professional players are Black, the documentary will give insight into the relationship between the NHL and athletes of color. “Black Ice” is directed by Hubert Davis and is executive produced by LeBron James, Maverick Carter, Drake and Future. The film premiered at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival where it was the People’s Choice documentary winner. “Black Ice” will make its U.S. debut in AMC theaters starting July 14.

The critically acclaimed actor shocked the world last week when it was announced by his family on Twitter that he had died of colon cancer, an ailment that he had been battling in secret since 2016.To help fans honor the late actor’s legacy, “42,’ in which Boseman played Major League Baseball pioneer Jackie Robinson, will be re-released across more than 300 locations for just $5 per ticket.
