A 15-year-old boy tragically fell to his death while 'chasing additional excitement' on a family climb, an inquest heard. Sami Ahmed 'died doing what he loved' while climbing on a family holiday in the Lake District in July.
The schoolboy and his cousin became separated from the rest of the group while out on a walk at the Old Man of Coniston. Sami then attempted to climb a rock and fell 30 to 40 metres at Dow Crag, reports LancsLive.
His dad Khali Ahmed said he only realised that the two youngsters were gone when he caught up with the rest of the group. The family reported them missing and Coniston Mountain Rescue Team were called out to the incident on July 10.
Rescue crews were able to pull Sami back up the mountain, but he sadly passed away. An inquest held at Cockermouth Coroners' Court today (November 10) heard how Sami had been on a day out with his father and 10 other family members at the time of his death.Paying tribute to the teen, Khalil said: "He was always very active.
