Christmas is just around the corner and with the cost-of-living crisis plaguing the nation, shoppers are looking for the cheapest ways to lower shopping bills.This is especially true for everyday essentials, as they are not one time seasonal purchases.

With large-scale supermarkets claiming to offer the best deals, it can be tough to know which chains charge the least for necessities like milk and bread.

Luckily, the Mirror has compared prices of the most bought items between several major supermarkets to find the best value. The comparison includes prices seen at some of the UK's leading supermarkets including Aldi, Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Tesco for basic items like pasta, toilet roll and eggs.It comes after new research from analytics experts at Kantar revealed the average supermarket bill in the UK is predicted to jump by £682 as inflation continues to push up food prices.Their findings also showed that British households have already seen significant rises in their shopping bills of around £40 a month - as grocery price inflation hit a record high 14.7% through October.This figure is also up from 13.9% the previous month when the rise to average annual bills was expected to be £643.Here's everything you should know.

The cheapest price for a standard 800g loaf of bread is 39p in most supermarkets, including Asda, Tesco, Aldi and Sainsburys.
