A supermarket that was working out cheapest for a basket of essentials for most of last month is now second most expensive. Morrisons had been charging less for the list of eight basic items and for three consecutive weeks came out on top in our weekly price comparison.
But now the retailer is second most expensive of all the supermarkets for the basket, which comes to £13.07 for tea bags, coffee, bread, butter, milk, beans, chicken and mince.
It comes after a price drop at Sainsbury's, where its 320g pack of chicken breasts has been reduced from £2.60 to £2.44. It means the pro rate price for a 300g pack now matches Aldi and Lidl's £2.29.
Tesco has cut its price too, from £2.45 to £2.29, but, with an increase in the cost of its cheapest mince, from £2.69 to £2.79, it's still the most expensive of all the supermarkets for a 10th consecutive week, with a bill of £13.28.
