Supermarket's 10% price cut makes it the cheapest for these shopping essentials

A supermarket's price cut has helped it regain its cheapest crown. Over the last few weeks Morrisons, Lidl and Aldi have all earned the top spot in our weekly shopping comparison, which looks at the cost of the same eight essentials at the six main supermarkets.

Last week Morrisons worked out cheapest, with a bill of £12.01 for the basket of basics, which includes bread, milk, butter, tea bags, coffee, beans, chicken and mince. Read more: I did a Tesco shop using the little-known rule and saved a fortune on my groceries But now Aldi has swiped the cheapest crown after cutting the cost of its coffee by 10%.

Its 200g jar of Alcafe Rich Roast has been reduced from £1.99 to £1.79, making it the cheapest coffee price across the board.

The only other change for shoppers this week is a rise in the price of butter at Tesco, which has increased its 250g block to £1.89, the same price as Lidl, Sainsbury's and Asda.
