Supermarket once named most expensive at New Year now just pennies off being cheapest

A supermarket once named the most expensive out of six for a number of staple items in the week after Christmas is now just 3p away from being the cheapest.

We’ve been looking at the cost of eight items - including bread, milk, chicken and tea - at six of the leading supermarkets since March 2022 as the cost of living sees prices rise drastically for a number of essentials.

With Christmas now out of the way, families may be wanting to cut down on costs even more so than usual this week - especially with the New Year looming.

And, as a result, a number of supermarkets have been cutting down the cost of vegetables - including Morrisons where 2kg of potatoes are £1.15 until January 1.
