Sunset Blvd. and Romeo + Juliet added some major heft to Broadway’s autumn box office last week, with the ecstatically reviewed Blvd.
grossing $1,211,699 even with press comps during its opening week, and R+J, selling out its eight previews at Circle in the Square, taking $1,056,775.
R+J, starring starring Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler, opens Thursday, October 24. In all, the 35 Broadway shows on the boards during the week ending October 20 took in $34,689,137, a bump of 1% over the previous week and 23% over last year at this time.
Attendance was 282,356, about 5% better than the previous week and 26% over last season. Figures for some other recent arrivals include: Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club was up about $69K to $1,123,538, filling 93% of seats at the August Wilson.
