East Kilbride generates almost half a tonne of waste a year – that’s the equivalent weight of a small dairy cow. Statistical data released by SEPA (Scottish Environment Protection Agency) has revealed that households in South Lanarkshire generated 0.44 tonnes of household waste per person during 2019.
Of that, 90kg goes to landfill – that’s the same as the average person in Scotland as a whole.In South Lanarkshire a total of 146,941 tonnes of waste was generated, 68,135 tonnes of that was recycled which accounts for 46.4 per cent of the total.
