Dan Walker has defended the BBC after it was hinted that the license fee would be scrapped. Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries tweeted about plans to overhaul the funding model for the BBC, revealing that the next announcement about the fee would "be the last".The annual payment usually changes on April 1 of each year, however, reports suggest that it will be frozen at the rate of £159 for the next two years.

BBC Breakfast broadcaster Dan took to Twitter to share an image of the various BBC TV and radio channels with the caption: "43p per day." Clarifying his thoughts in a later post, 44 year old Strictly star Dan added: "I am well aware that the BBC makes mistakes and needs to change, but the media landscape would be much poorer without it. "Those three letters are trusted and respected around the world." Match Of The Day presenter Gary Lineker also showed solidarity, as he retweeted the same image from the BBC press office.

He wrote: "Yes the BBC brings you the best in news, in sport, in drama, in music, in children's, in science, in history, in entertainment, in current affairs and Sir David bloody Attenborough….but apart from that what has the BBC ever done for us?" Gary went on to retweet a video from the television license advert from 1986, entitled 'what the BBC has ever done for us', writing: "The BBC is revered, respected and envied around the world. "It should be the most treasured of national treasures.

Something true patriots of our country should be proud of. "It should never be a voice for those in Government, whoever is in power." Offering his thoughts on the potential plans for the licensing fee, Hugh Grant tweeted: "The BBC is something the whole world admires with envy.
