Strictly's Joe McFadden returning to Holby City in wife's cancer plot - despite being dead

Joe McFadden is back from the dead in Holby City to reprise his role as Raf di Lucca for one episode – as a ghost. The actor, 44, bowed out from the BBC medical series in 2017 after four years of playing the hot-shot doctor.

In the story he was gunned down by the son of his boss who went on the rampage in the hospital suffering from severe mental health issues.

But now surgeon Raf is back – to help guide his nurse wife through her cancer diagnosis. In touching scenes to be screened later this month he will appear to Essie, played by Kaye Wragg, and help her decide how she will go forward.
