He's known for having a bit of a sharp tongue when it comes to his critiques in the ballroom but Strictly Come Dancing fans have found themselves jumping to Craig Revel Horwood's defence as the new series kicked off.

The 2023 run of the BBC One dance contest began last weekend with the launch show in which the 15 new celebrities discovered their professional partners.

However, the competition officially began on Saturday night (September 23) with the first live show of the 21st series. Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman welcomed viewers back to the ballroom while judges Craig, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas took their seats behind the judging panel ready to cast their expert eyes over the routines as the 15 new couples performed for the first time.
