Scores of mysterious security cameras have popped up at Prestwick Airport.Eagle-eyed motorists passing by the travel hub have spotted the 'Dalek style' tri-pods which are stationed on the edge of the boundary fence. The cameras have been installed to warn off trespassers, and have a dark blue and yellow chequered print on them, with antennas sticking out the top.But airport chiefs insist their appearance hasn't been promoted by an "incident or immediate threat".

Instead they say the cameras are a "proactive step" in keeping intruders out.The cameras are part of the airport trialling new security infrastructure.

One motorist told Ayrshire Live: "I was driving past and spotted them immediately, there are loads of them all dotted along the fence.

You cannot miss them staring you in the face."They must be about 25m apart from each other. They look like something out a sci-film, they are like Daleks."A spokesperson for Prestwick Airport said: "Airports need to consistently update their security systems and at Glasgow Prestwick Airport we are trialling new security infrastructure, to ensure we can maintain a safe and secure site for all airport users and the surrounding community."These additional security cameras around the perimeter was not prompted by an incident or immediate threat, instead, it is a proactive step towards exploring new solutions and assess their suitability for our unique requirements."
