Stormzy opens up about his faith as he wins award for ‘contribution to public understanding of religion’

Stormzy has won an award for helping people understand religion. The rapper was given a Sandford St Martin award as a nod to his ‘contribution to the public understanding of religion’.

Stormzy, real name Michael Omari Owuo Jr, opened up about his faith as he accepted the award from the trust, which promotes ‘programming that engages with religion of all faiths’.

He said: ‘Every award I’ve ever collected, whatever achievement I’ve ever had, I’ve always been vocal about the fact that it’s not possible without God. ‘He’s the reason why I’m here today.

He’s the reason that I’m able to have a career… but a lot of the time I get non-believers saying ‘don’t thank God, this wasn’t God.
