Storm Malik in pictures as winds of up to 80mph cause chaos across Scotland

Storm Malik has hit Scotland hard today with three weather warnings in place throughout the country. The east coast is braced for the worst of the weather with gusts in excess of 75 mph possible for parts resulting in an amber Met Office warning.

Mainland Scotland is set to experience high winds for most of the day with the warnings in place until 3pm. However, the Met Office yellow warning remains in place for Orkney and Shetland until 8pm this evening.The storm already caused chaos throughout Scotland this morning.

Hundreds of trains have been cancelled with road bridges including the Tay Bridge closed to all traffic with the Queensferry Crossing closed to high sided vehicles.

Below we have included images to show you the situation across Scotland so far...Make sure you are vigilant and keep as safe as possible if heading out today.High winds are causing trees to fall with gusts lifting other materials into the air, causing hazardous conditions in many areas.@TokyoTrevS took to Twitter to share his near miss when out and about this morning.There are a number of fallen trees across the country with one currently blocking part of the A702 near Bigger.It comes as the high winds create traffic carnage throughout the country.Those hoping to get outside this weekend may have to cancel their plans as the gales create some wild and hazardous conditions.Much like this scene at St Andrews beach this morning.The Storm is also likely to cause some property damage, unfortunately.This high winds have already saw cars in Midlothian fall victim.
