Storm Eunice: Man killed by falling tree as he clears up debris left behind by high winds

A man was killed by a falling tree as he tried to clear up the debris left by Storm Eunice.The man, who is in his 60s, died on Friday while he was clearing debris in Co Wexford.

It is understood he was working with a colleague cleaning up tree debris when the tragedy struck, Irish Mirror reports.Gardai are said investigating the incident.

The Health and Safety Authority will also be carrying out its own investigation. A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí and emergency services attended a fatal incident this morning, 18th February 2022 in the Ballythomas area of Co Wexford."It is understood that a man, aged in his 60s, was injured as a result of a falling tree.

The man was later pronounced deceased at the scene. "The body of the man will be removed to Waterford University Hospital where a post-mortem will take place in due course. "The Health Safety Authority (HSA) have been notified and are due to attend the scene."It comes as Storm Eunice has wreaked chaos around the UK, with England recording 122mph winds amid a rare red weather warning.Hair-raising footage has also shown the treacherous conditions some drivers are facing on Scotland's travel network.
