Storm Éowyn set to bring gusts up to 90mph as West Dunbartonshire braces for weekend of wind

West Dunbartonshire will see strong winds over the weekend as Storm Éowyn batters Scotland, with gusts expected to reach as high as 90mph.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for strong winds all day on Friday and up to 3pm on Saturday. Met Office forecasters say that there’s a chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services could be impacted, a chance of some damage to buildings, potential localised power cuts, a “small chance” that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties and from flying debris.

A Met Office forecaster added: “Strong west to northwesterly winds will persist through the first part of Saturday as Storm Éowyn clears away to the northeast, with gusts of 50-60mph inland and 60-70mph over some exposed coasts and hills“There is a small chance of 70-80mph gusts across the Northern Isles for a time.

Winds will ease across southern parts of the warning area during the early hours of Saturday, and this easing in wind strength will expand northwards through the day on Saturday.”
