Steven Gerrard

Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.

He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,

Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.

He was in Championship reckoning - but now Steven Gerrard is one of the leading names to have opted for Saudi Pro League riches.The Liverpool icon kicked off his career in management at Rangers and guiding them to Premiership title number 55 paved the road to Premier League territory and Aston Villa.

But it was a disappointing reign for the former midfielder and he was out of a job less than a year from arriving in November in 2021.

The Athletic claim that before taking the plunge on moving to the Middle East at Al Ettifaq, Gerrard "was in contention for a few jobs in the Championship".

But time at Rangers and Villa proved to matter little, as "those appointments went to candidates with greater relevant managerial experience".
