Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.
He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,
Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.
Steven Gerrard says it was Jurgen Klopp's advice which gave him the grounding for management prior to taking on the Rangers job.The legendary Liverpool midfielder was a youth coach at the Anfield side before moving to Ibrox in 2018.
He left in November 2021 after claiming Premiership title 55 but his next stint in the manager's chair was a harsh lesson, sacked by Aston Villa after less than a year in charge.Such setbacks like the Villains sacking are viewed in a positive light for development though, as Gerrard opened up on the advice from Liverpool boss Klopp which set him on his way.
He told Be the Standard initiative: “Jurgen gave incredible support. He knows the game. I got good advice from him. That was good grounding for me and helped me learn the management trade.
I was obsessed and still am obsessed with winning. But in football, probably like you in business, you’ve got to be prepared for the highs and the lows."I’ve had disappointments and setbacks like injuries but that drove me on to get even better.
