Manchester United coach Steve McClaren was visibly emotional as the club paid tribute to Sir Bobby Charlton ahead of their Premier League clash with Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Saturday evening.
Charlton's family issued a statement on Saturday afternoon announcing the death of the former midfielder at the age of 86. He died peacefully surrounded by loved ones in the early hours of Saturday morning.
As a mark of respect, both sets of players, plus match officials, sported black armbands, and United captain Bruno Fernandes laid a wreath in tribute.
A minute's applause also took place ahead of kick-off in remembrance of the former midfielder, who made 758 appearances for United, winning seven major honours, including the European Cup.
