Steve Burton is breaking his silence on Kelly Monaco‘s shocking exit from General Hospital.
It was revealed back in August that the 48-year-old Emmy-nominated actress, who has played Sam McCall for the last 21 years, was exiting the ABC soap opera. Kelly‘s final episode aired on November 1 after which her character had died due to complications after donating her liver to Lulu Spencer.
During new episode of his podcast The Daily Drama, which he co-hosts with co-star Bradford Anderson (Spinelli), Steve, 54, shared how difficult it was filming his final scenes with Kelly. Keep reading to find out more…“I was really at a loss in the sense of I wasn’t sure how to play this.
Obviously, we have a huge history,” Steve shared. “Obviously, we’ve worked together for a long time, so there was all of these things going on, but I didn’t have a clear vision.” Steve‘s character Jason Morgan has a very long history with Kelly‘s Sam, as they were romantically involved, on and off, for two decades. Maurice Benard – who plays Sonny Cortinthos – offered Steve some words of wisdom following Kelly‘s exit, saying that “whatever happens in there is supposed to happen.” “You don’t have to force anything,” Maurice, 61, also told Steve. “Just let it work.” Also in the podcast, Steve revealed that filming Jason’s emotional goodbye scene to Sam in the hospital wasn’t actually the last scene he filmed with Kelly. “I had to shoot that stuff with her first and then go backward,” Steve explained. “It was very sad because Kelly was obviously leaving, and then the emotion of the character passing and all these things, and I just thought everybody really did a wonderful job.” “It was really interesting to have gotten all that emotion out and then have to
