Stephen Robinson reckons St Mirren matchwinner Oisin Smyth is a shining light for players waiting for a first-team chance. The summer signing from Oxford United started Saturday’s dramatic 2-1 Premiership win at Ross County on the back of just 30-odd minutes of football in two months.

However, there was nothing rusty about the set-piece stunner Smyth produced to earn 10-man Buddies their seventh Premiership win of the season.

And proud Paisley chief Robbo, who watched his side battle to victory with 10 men following Scott Tanser's red card, credited the 24-year-old with having exactly the right attitude while he was stuck on the bench.

The gaffer said: “He took his chance brilliantly. It is something I’ve used as an example to all of the players. Sometimes you think you’re a million miles away from the team.
