Staycations could be back on the cards by Easter with hotels open if the R number and number of infections are low enough, it has been reported.

The i newspaper said they were told by a senior Government officer that Boris Johnson has a three stage plan to ease lockdown restrictions in the UK.

It starts by schools which are due to open on March 8. The i newspaper claimed that if data proved the R number remained low, the Prime Minister would then allow non-essential shops to reopen towards the end of March.

And if there continues to be no significant rise in the R number or infections in the week leading up to Good Friday on April 2, then Mr Johnson would reportedly allow the hospitality business to reopen.
