Inmates at Cheshire's HMP Styal were subjected to harm due to healthcare delays, a new report reveals. One diabetic inmate was neglected for hours without insulin or blood sugar checks, leading to hospitalisation with severe complications, inspectors have said.

Another prisoner's mental health deteriorated after inconsistent access to psychiatric medication resulted in her being placed in segregation, the report added.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection at the women's prison flagged 'dirty' and 'unsafe' healthcare services, prompting inspectors to issue three warning notices for multiple breaches of the Health and Social Care Act.
