St Johnstone are set to seal the loan signing of Newcastle’s Jay Turner-Cooke.The 19-year-old can play in a central midfield role or can also be utilised as a winger.Turner-Cooke recently travelled to the United States with the Magpies’ first team for their Premier League Summer Series.He featured against Chelsea and Brighton and Hove Albion during the trip.
His first senior goal for Newcastle arrived in a 3-2 pre-season victory against Gateshead last month.Just last week he came off the bench to net a brace for the Under-21s against Southampton.Meanwhile, Saints manager Steven MacLean has an Austrian central midfielder on trial this week.Sven Sprangler (28) has jetted in looking to impress and earn a deal at McDiarmid Park.Sprangler’s previous clubs include SV Mattersburg and Wolfsberger AC, the latter where he played high-profile Europa League games against Roma, Feyenoord and Tottenham.MacLean said: “His name has been put to us so we’ve done our homework.“He certainly looks like he can play.
He wants to come in and try and earn a contract so we’ll see how he looks.“It’s always good when players back themselves.
