Springhill Boxing Club fighter Joshua Cullen was voted best away boxer after winning his bout at Cleland Miners’ Boxing Club’s show. The show, at Rivals Gym in Wishaw, saw Cullen up against Willie McGuigan from the home club, and the Springhill boxer dominated every round. After giving McGuigan a count in the first and second rounds, the referee eventually stopped the contest in the final round, in Cullen’s favour.Logan Stagg also had his first ever contest at the Priestfield Boxing Club show at Dalziel Park recently, but the home club could only take it as a no-scoring contest.Frank Delaney, head coach at Shotts-based Springhill, who has been with the Scottish Elite squad as a coach at the European Youth Championships in Yerevan, Armenia, said: “Joshua put in a fantastic performance, so much so that he was awarded the best away boxer award.“It was a great performance in only his third fight.“Logan boxed very well and was in control of every round.“It was a great start for Logan, who shows great potential, and will hopefully get more bouts soon.”Springhill Boxing Club has five boxers heading to Boxing Scotland’s High Performance Centre over the next few weeks to train and be assessed. They are aiming to impress and, if they do, they could be chosen to represent Scotland at the upcoming British Championships in June, in Wales and at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell.Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onTwitter via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and video.
