Lauren Coates Hazelight Studios’s new multiplayer-only game “Split Fiction” sold more than 2 million copies in its first week since its March 6 release.
Written by director and Hazelight studio chief Josef Fares and Sebastian Johansson, the game blends fantasy and science fiction, following a pair of authors trapped in the worlds they wrote. “Split Fiction” features unique gameplay mechanics involving split-screen combat, platforming challenges, and differing abilities for each character.
The team at Hazelight Studios took to Instagram to announce passing 2 million copies sold. A post shared by Hazelight Studios (@hazelightgames) “SPLIT FICTION has sold 2 MILLION copies in 1 WEEK!!
Holy crap, we’re blown away here! Simply amazing…” Hazelight said in a celebratory Instagram post featuring co-op protagonists Mio (Kaja Chan) and Zoe (Elise Bennett). “Thank you to all of our new and old fans – we love how excited you are for our game!” “Split Fiction” was first announced at the 2024 Game Awards by Fares, but began development immediately after the release of Hazelight’s critically acclaimed “It Takes Two” in 2021. “Split Fiction’s” dual protagonists are named after Fares’ real-life daughters, and the game was designed for a split-screen, co-op experience where players work together — either locally or online.
